Have you struggled with anger and/or rage since becoming a mother? Often when these feelings come up, they can become so powerful that they take over and we can feel helpless and out of control. 

Join these sessions to create an opportunity to shift how you view your anger, how you see yourself, and help you to make lasting changes. You will be invited to learn more about what triggers your anger, how to start recognizing warning signs and learn coping strategies to deal with these feelings and the behaviours that come with it. This workshop will also provide opportunity for connecting with other women who have similar struggles in their journey through motherhood.

These classes are facilitated in an interactive online class by Jen Reddish, Counsellor at The Essence of You, specialist in mental health in post-partum & motherhood.

Each Session will allow time for each participant to share examples from their lives and discuss with other participants while being led by Jen with further information and feedback.

Give yourself an opportunity for authentic connection as you take reprieve from your busy life and enter into a retreat-style experience in the peaceful countryside on outskirts of Calgary.

These groups are held on the fourth Saturday of each month. Sessions are from 10-1 and include a light lunch.

You will be welcomed at each session with a meditative connection with nature to help you centre in on yourself and identify what you need to focus on. Afterwards, you will be guided through therapeutic discussion and activities to help you navigate current struggles in your journey through motherhood - with a prime focus on deepening your connection to yourself.

You will be supported to gain insight and make healthy changes to make your journey through motherhood more manageable.

What to expect:

* Connect to your identity and the essence of who you are while processing current and past experiences in this supportive group setting led by experienced therapist Jen Reddish

* Learn how to put yourself first without sacrificing others,

* Learn how to set limits and boundaries within your relationships with assertive communication,

* Learn how to manage your emotions effectively

Mini Retreat: Releasing Anxiety & Finding Your Calm

Join Jen Reddish, Master Therapeutic Counsellor with almost 10 years of experience on this topic for a half day retreat learning and practicing ways to release your anxiety and restore a sense of calm.

Your day will include:

  • A guided mindfulness walk through the forest in the gorgeous countryside on the outskirts of Calgary where this retreat is being held

  • A welcome circle with nourishing snacks and refreshments

  • An interactive psycho-educational workshop + art therapy process with Registered Master Therapeutic Counsellor Jen Reddish where you will be supported to gain insight around your anxiety to help you find ways of releasing it. Workshop Details

Join Jen Reddish, Master Therapeutic Counsellor at The Essence of You, to create an opportunity to shift how you view your anger, rage, and guilt which will help you to make lasting changes. 

You will be invited to learn more about what triggers your anger and guilt, how to start recognizing warning signs and learn coping strategies to deal with these feelings and the behaviours that come with it.

You will learn ways of releasing guilt and anger that are toxic for you, understand how to use your power and support yourself without sacrificing others, and connect to different sides of yourself.

Mini – Retreat Itinerary

8:30am – 9:45am (optional): Meet us for coffee / a snack in Snug Cove to connect to other group members and shuttle with us to the workshop location if you decide to walk on the ferry instead of drive over. Even if you bring your own vehicle or are a Bowen Island resident, you are welcome to meet up with us for a casual coffee here.

10:15am – 1:15pm (Workshop): Hosted by Jen Reddish, this is the workshop time! With Jen’s guidance, you will explore your anger, rage, and guilt and tools to make lasting changes in a supportive group setting and walk away with new tools and connections for thriving in yourself as an individual and new parent.

1:30pm (Optional, details may change depending on whether, ETC): Participant outdoor lunch walking distance from ferry (bring a bagged lunch for this!) or shuttle back to ferry for those heading straight back. There are also lots of restaurants to check out for lunch for those who prefer to go out. Details of “things to do on Bowen” will be sent out for those who want to take time to explore the island and stay a while! Explore the beaches, go for a hike, have an ice cream or locally made chocolate, and check out the local shops! *Exact details of optional post-workshop options will be sent out closer to the date.

Getting There

Bowen Island is a 20 minute ferry ride from the Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal. Ferry fees are approximately $10.45 per person, plus around $29 per vehicle (return trip included, you only pay one way!). Bringing your vehicle over will give you more flexibility for exploring the island after the workshop, but for those who wish to walk-on, we will arrange to shuttle you to and from the ferry. 

Catch either the 8am or 9:05am ferry and meet us for a morning coffee in Snug Cove just off the ferry and then we can head to the workshop location for 10am. Full morning details for those who want to walk on the ferry and catch a ride with us to the workshop will be sent by email closer to the date, but we will make it easy as pie for ya. 

For those who want to make a weekend of it, there are lots of places to stay on the island!

SO much of pregnancy and motherhood is unpredictable, causing women to feel powerless and out of control. Our bodies can become a very easy target. Workshop: Loving Your Body

What are the underlying causes that contribute to your body dissatisfaction? Where do your beliefs about yourself and your body come from? What are the links between your body image and your self esteem? And…. what does shame have to do with it?

Learning to LOVE your body can be difficult, especially in a society that capitalizes off of shaming women’s bodies.

If you find yourself often focusing on or obsessing over your appearance, this workshop is for you.

You will be supported to learn ways to create a lasting positive relationship with your body and self by: Identifying what is healthy and unhealthy in your life around your body/food/exercise, unearthing what is blocking you from honestly loving your body, and connecting to your body and emotions. We will also be touching on how to support children in creating healthy body image for themselves, as per request!

Join Jen Reddish, counsellor at The Essence of You, to explore all of the above and more. You can expect to walk away from this workshop with a greater understanding of yourself and your relationship with your body image and helpful strategies to help you build a healthier relationship with your body and self.

This group offers a safe space for mothers to share, connection and develop more self-awareness. This group series will be centered around relationships with a focus on sharing and processing current issues that participants are experiencing. Each session there will be opportunity for members to share current struggles and receive feedback while also learning new skills and coping strategies.

Groups are run by Jen Reddish, Counsellor and Psychotherapist at The Essence of You.This is a closed group with 5 sessions. You do not need to be a new mother to join. This workshop is a part of a series focusing on exploring your identity as a woman and mother. Each session has a similar focus on identity but with different discussion points & activities.

This workshop will use creative activities to help you connect to yourself on a deeper level. Participants will have an opportunity to explore: qualities within yourself that represent who you are, reconnecting with lost parts of yourself and letting go what is no longer serving you, and self-care strategies that help you be your authentic self.

This is a safe space for sharing and exploration, and an opportunity for meeting other mothers on a similar journey.
